Many antique aircraft perform at today s airshows and races worldwide. How did those aircraft get there? How did they survive all these years? The Restorers is an hour-long documentary film about warbird and vintage aircraft restorers and the planes they resurrect from the graves of history. Their works often haven't flown in over 50 years and are in the worst of conditions. These individuals are similar to classic car enthusiasts. Their obsession, however, is deeper and obscenely more expensive. Our story will examine the spectrum of restorers - from the everyday guy who is rebuilding a biplane in his garage, to the corporation that specializes in warbird reconstruction. Nick Engler has put together a team to rebuild five of the Wright Brothers aircraft, and fly them at the sands of Kitty Hawk, NC. Chuck Reed has amassed 15 flyable antique aircraft at his Ohio home, as a hobby. A pair of Apollo astronauts now spend their time and money flying rare P-51 Mustangs for the public in the tricky Heritage Flights. Mike Cuy spent four years building a beautiful depression-era aircraft... in his living room. The Sanders brothers fly their warbirds at 300 mph 50 feet above the ground at the Reno Air Races. In the snows of North Dakota we find two of the best warbird builders in the world in Gerry Beck and Bob Odegaard, builders of Mustangs and a rare Super Corsair respectively. The subjects are as varied as they are intriguing. What type of person does it take to sink sometimes millions of dollars and years of their life into a plane that may be just a footnote in history?
